The mecha hauler is built from titanium-steel alloy for structural integrity to support high mass loads. The body provides fair protection against small arms fire, and good protection against small grenade and shell fragments.
The cab of the mecha hauler provides full protection from nuclear, biological, and chemical hazards, using an overpressure crew compartment environment activated by radiation and hazardous chemical sensors, or manually when biological warfare conditions are anticipated. The internal consumables supplies can provide atmosphere for two man-weeks maximum.
This vehicle saw use by the military to transport mecha and to retrieve damaged mecha from the field. With the introduction of the destroid series of battle robots, the UNDF ground forces needed recovery vehicles large enough to carry damaged mecha back from the field. Conventional armored recovery vehicles did not have the capability to efficiently drag the mecha back to the repair facilities. As such, a large truck was needed with a cargo area big enough to hold the large battloids and destroids being fielded. This mecha hauler is the result of the development.
This sizable vehicle saw continued use by the Southern Cross and REF forces for mecha recovery and transportation despite its sizable footprint. However, the Southern Cross supplemented this vehicle with the Hover Flatbed for their smaller battloids and other mecha, since the mecha hauler was limited in which roads it could use.
The hauler provides catwalks so that crew can move between the cab and the raised flatbed. The large flatbed has numerous tie-down locations to secure the cargo regardless of its shape and size.
