The Skylord is the ultimate Earth development in ground and ship-launched anti-starship missiles. As such, it has been used by both the REF and the SC, on ships, installations and ground launch bases. Unlike a conventional missile, which uses rocket engines for propulsion, the Skylord has an engine which functions as a plasma-shock expansion motor in the atmosphere, and as a plasma-fusion rocket in vacuum. Because of this propulsion system, the Skylord has an unmatched acceleration and range. Added to this must be the large warheads, penetration aids, and accurate guidance system.
The war record of this missile is checkered; although technically a success and lethal against the targets it was designed to destroy (Zentraedi starships), the Skylord had not the intended effect against the Robotech Masters, and like other large anti-ship missiles, was never carried into range of the large Hiveships. Even so, the Skylord is set to remain the main anti-ship rocket system for the foreseeable future.
